Let’s start with the positive: Ophthalmologists are among the happiest physicians.1 With that being said, only a surprising 39% of ophthalmologists report feeling happy at work. With the amount of time, energy, and effort that we invest in our practices, that is a staggering statistic. With physician burnout on the rise and the increasing acuity of a healthier work-life balance, it’s time to confront this issue head-on.
This issue of MillennialEYE explores the concept of physician burnout, why it is becoming more prevalent, and what to do if affected. We also offer a behind-the-scenes look at how some busy ophthalmologists unwind outside work. After all, we cannot truly care for others to the best of our abilities unless we, too, take care of ourselves. So, kick back, enjoy, and namaste!
