As physicians, our pursuit is a noble one: to help those who seek our care. In today’s world of rising patient expectations, mounting physical and psychological demands on surgeons, and the complexities of practicing in the digital age, sometimes our path is not so clear. However, as the saying goes, “The only way out is through.” So, in this issue of ME, we dive head first into some of the complex challenges faced by ophthalmologists. From work-related musculoskeletal disorders to psychosocial factors affecting patient satisfaction to negative online reviews, expert contributors share their pearls for navigating the sometimes-muddy waters of ophthalmic practice. The better prepared we are to manage the challenges that arise, the better our patients will fare and the closer we remain to our purpose.
