These New Changing Times

For aspiring and young ophthalmologists, the path forward can often feel overwhelmingly unknown. However, with some reframing, this can also be seen as a time of great opportunity—a chance to consider the best-fit path for you and do your best to set out on it. Of course, hindsight is 20/20. So, for this issue of ME, we asked some of our key contributors through the years to reflect on their early days of training and practice. These ophthalmologists share pieces of advice they’d give to their younger selves, and most have a similar theme: Find your purpose and follow it. Determine what is important to you personally and professionally and shape your life accordingly. In the words of Waylon Jennings, “You have all your dreams in these new changing times.” Whatever your course, those will take you far.
